Abstract

A phosphate-containing liquid fertilizer containing calcium and/or magnesium is made incorporating in the fertilizer an alkali hexametaphosphate or pyrophosphate. The preferred amounts by weight of the additional ingredients in the finished product are: -0.25-1.0 per cent of magnesium (calculated as MgO), 0.35-1.4 per cent of calcium (calculated as CaO) or equivalent amounts of both and 5 per cent of sodium hexametaphosphate or pyrophosphate. The salts specified are magnesium sulphate or nitrate and calcium nitrate. A protective colloid e.g. gum arabic and soluble salts of organic acids e.g. ammonium tartrate or citrate, may also be added.
