Abstract
629,126. Cathode materials and processing. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and VAUSE, A. S. April 14, 1947, No. 9892. [Class 39 (i)] A method of making a cathode consists in forming a mixture of chemicals, so chosen that when heated a reduction in volume occurs, forming a paste of the mixture and extruding the paste in the form of a tube, inserting a conductor into the tube and heating the assembly to cause the tube to shrink into close contact with the conductor. The mixture may consist of barium, strontium and calcium carbonates, with some pure silica formed into a paste with a solution of gum tragacanth in distilled water and acetone. The conductor 2, Fig. 2, may be coiled and may be used as the heater, or an additional heater 3 may be wound round the outside of the tube 1.
