Abstract

628,985. Kinematography. PHOTOTECHNICS, Ltd., and ANGOLD, E. B. Sept. 24, 1946, No. 28555. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] A light source for taking kinematograph pictures consists of a vapour discharge lamp adapted to be triggered by the discharge of a condenser in synchronism with the movement of the film through the camera. As shown, a condenser 10 is charged from a transformer 12 through a rectifier 1 and resistance 2. The condenser is discharged periodically through the discharge lamp 3 by a triggering voltage applied to an external ionizing electrode 13. This electrode is connected to the secondary of a transformer 4. A condenser 7 is charged from a tapping on the transformer 12, through a rectifier 9 and resistance 11, and discharged through the primary of the transformer 4 through contacts 6 closed by a cam 5 rotating in synchronism with the camera film-feed mechanism. The light flashes may be so short that no camera shutter is required and the film movement may be continuous. When a shutter is used a second cam lobe 15 may be provided to reduce flicker in the illumination, the additional flashes occurring when the shutter is closed. Specification 589,037 is referred to.
