Abstract
628,970. Photographic processing apparatus. ZOLLINGER, W. July 19, 1946, No. 21697. Convention date, July 30, 1945. [Class 98 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] Means of the kind described in Specification 412,023 for conveying cut paper sheets through adjoining photographic processing baths is characterized in that each bath is provided at each side with an elastic cord carrying pivoted driving members and passing over upper driving and lower idler pulleys, these driving members engaging the edges of the paper sheet so as to move the paper with them and pass it out of the bath between a cylinder and pressure rollers to the next bath, two paper-supporting cylinders being arranged coaxially with and between the upper and lower pairs of pulleys. As shown, at opposite sides of the bath 1 are disposed guide plates 6 separated by cross-rods 7. Pulleys 13, 14 are carried by shafts 9, 10 which are journalled in bushes 8 attached to the plates 6 and which carry rubber-covered papersupporting cylinders 11, 12. An endless spiral spring steel wire 16 passes round each set of pulleys in grooves 13a, 14b and the driving members 15 are frictionally secured thereon by bushes attached to their main arms 15a. Two guide channels 17 on the plates 6, spaced wider apart at the bottom than at the top, locate spherical boss ends 15b of the driving members 15, whilst fingers 15c, 15d arranged on opposite sides of the main arm 15a at 30 and 60 degrees to it respectively form a paper-receiving V. When resting on the upper pulley 13 the main arm 15a is inclined upwardly at about 30 degrees to the shaft, but when the boss 15b reaches the lower end of the guide channel 17 the arm 15a becomes inclined upwardly at 15 degrees to the parallel shaft 10 due to the slope of the grooves 14b causing the members 15 to tend to slide towards each other under the influence of the wire 16, thus causing the members to produce a " clamping " action on the edges of the paper sheet. Between the plates 6 are disposed paper guiding members 22. The plates 6 carry upper extensions 6f in which is supported the shaft of a cylinder 26 whilst its co-operating pressure rollers 27 are carried by a frame 24 of inverted U-shape bolted to the extensions 6f, the axes of the two outermost rollers being fixed whilst the other two are freely movable in slots in the frame. A number of baths 1 are housed in a double-walled outer casing 2 and the upper shafts 9 of each bath are driven by a chain engaging the sprockets 4.
