[Class 36] A tool for slitting the covering of an electric cable comprises a holder a halving a longitudinal bore for receiving the cable g, a blade b pivotally mounted at c in a longitudinal slot in the holder, the blade b having a cutting edge h at or near its forward end, and a spring ring d mounted in the holder a to press the cutting edge h inwardly. The holder a may be supported by ball-bearings q in a fixed carrier i so that it is free to rotate and follow any corrugations in the cable cover f as the cable is drawn out of the cutter. A gauge tube m may be provided having a pin p adjustable in a slot n, so that a predetermined length of cable may be inserted in the cutter.
