[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A drive for a shaker conveyer includes a pump, the delivery of which is fed to a valveless piston engine which shakes this conveyer, the delivery being continuously variable so that the conveyer may be given a movement having the right characteristic. Figs. 1, 2. Motor 1 drives spindle 3 carrying rotor 5 mounted eccentrically within pump 10. The latter forms a cylindrical guideway within which slide pistons 6 so that rotation of rotor 5 compresses oil into pipe 9 and draws it from pipe 8. This movement of oil is transmitted through pipes 18, 19 to piston 20 which works to cylinder 17 and thus reciprocates the shaker conveyer. Spindle 3 also drives shaft 12 carrying cam 25 through gears 4, 22, 23, 24 ; and cam 25 working against pressure roller 13 formed on the frame 14 of cylinder 10 displaces the cylinder relative to rotor 5 and against the spring 15 so that in the extreme position oil will flow into pipe 8 and out of pipe 9. Hence, as the cam rotates, the frame 14 will move backwards and forwards and cause a corresponding variation in the movement of the oil so that the shaker conveyer will reciprocate with like characteristics. Movement of cam 25 along shaft 12 is effected by handle 26 so as to change the characteristics of motion of the oil. Figs. 6, 7. Motor 41 drives pump 49, and also drives shaft 54 through worm 52 fixed on motor shaft 47. On hollow shaft 54 are loosely mounted gears 57-61 engaging with gears 62-66 fixed permanently on shaft 67. Spring- loaded key 70 is moved along the shaft at the end of spindle 71 which is moved by nut 74 travelling along screw 73 rotated by handle 72, so that the appropriate gear is secured to shaft 54 and the drive is passed to cam 76 slidably fixed to shaft 67. Cam 76 presses roller 77 against spring 78 so that arm 50, on which roller 77 is mounted, is displaced. Arm 50 controls the output and direction of fluid from pump 49, and this fluid is led by pipes 79, 80 to cylinder 84 in which works piston 83 which reciprocates conveyer 97 by means of link 91. Selection of gear by rotation of knob 72, and displacement of cam 76 along shaft 67 by rotation of knob 109 and the consequent displacement of nut 111 securely attached to cam 76, give variation of displacement characteristics of the conveyer. Pump (Figs. 9 and 10). Plate 113 is fixed and provided with curved grooves 114, 115 leading respectively to oil pipes 80 and 79. Cylinder block 116 rotates with shaft 117 and carries pistons 118 bearing against pivoted inclined plate 119. Rotation of block causes reciprocation of pistons so that oil is forced into pipe 80 and sucked out of pipe 79. Pivoted movement of plate 119 varies direction and strength of fluid pressure.
