Abstract
627,818. Seed sower. GALLAGHER, T., and WILLATS, H. R. July 22, 1947, Nos. 19589 and 23195. [Class 6(i)] [Also in Group XVII] A seed-sowing device comprises a tubular container divided transversely into two sections 2, 5 by a flexible diaphragm 7, a reciprocating plunger 16 having pockets 17 therein, which plunger picks up seed from one section 2 of the container and carries it to the other section so that the seed is released. As shown the plunger 16 has pockets 17, 17a, 17b of different sizes and an adjustable sheath 24 having an opening 25 is provided so that any pocket may be uncovered by the sheath. To set the sheath in its correct angular position a dial 26 suitably calibrated is provided which co-operates with a fixed index. Alternatively the container may be provided with notches 28 co-operating with a handle 29 in the sheath. The sheath may be provided with a bevel gear which co-operates with a bevel gear, on the container, operated by a handle for setting the sheath. A groove may be used instead of pockets. The machine may be operated by hand or may be fixed by bracket 38 to a cultivator and the plunger reciprocated by power from a motor or cultivator hand-wheel.
