Abstract
627,442. Glass electrodes. KENT, Ltd., G. April 30, 1947, No. 11635. Convention date, May 9, 1946. Addition to 574,029. [Class 56] A suitable oxygen modifier is added to the constituents of the glass of the parent Specification, the composition thus becoming R 2 O (R=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs)-MO (M= Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba)-XO 2 (X = substantially Si) - OM," the molecular percentages of the " OM " and XO 2 components being comple. mentary; the glass preferably contains no constituents exchangeable with the Na ions of the test solutions in which glass electrodes made therefrom are to be immersed. Suitable " OM substances are QO 2 (Q = Zr, Ti, Th, U, Ce), TeO 3 , Q 2 O 5 (Q=P, Nb. Ta), Q 2 O 3 (Q=As, Y, La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu). Glasses within the ranges (mol. per cent) R 2 O 20-30, XO, 59-66, " OM " 0.5-6.0 and at least some MO are referred to.
