Abstract
626,773. Clutches. BLANCHETTE, H. April 11, 1947, No. 9754. Convention date, April 12, 1946. [Class 80 (ii)] A clutch comprises a rotatably mounted driven shaft 1, a clutch plate 14 slidably attached thereto and another clutch plate 11 rotatably mounted on the shaft 1, a double clutch surface 21 on the gear being engaged by the clutch plates selectively when the spaces 29, 30 are evacuated through longitudinal passages 7, 10, and pipes 22, 25 respectively in a block 2. The drive is selective between the gear 3 and the shaft 1 or a chain 13 on a sprocket 12 rigid with the clutch plate 11. The vacuum is maintained in the spaces 29, 30 by leather sealing strips 35.
