Abstract
626,747. Shock-absorbers. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and JENKINS, H. F. L. Feb'. 26, 1947, No. 5512. [Class 108 (iii)] A shock-absorber comprises a plurality o conical-shaped resilient members 2, each having a conical recess and alternating with rigid cupshaped pieces 1 having a rim portion supporting the outer peripheral portion of one of the resilient members and a sleeve integral therewith nesting in the central aperture of the adjoining resilient member, a rigid cup-shaped end piece 3 supporting the outer peripheral portion of the resilient member at one extremity of the assembly, a flanged sleeve 5 nesting in the central aperture of the resilient member at the other extremity of the assembly and means for limiting the outward relative movement of the end piece and sleeve. Extension is limited by a wire rope 9 the ends of which are located by nipples 6 within respective eyebolts 4 carried by the members 3, 5. Adjustment of the eyebolts 4 in nuts 7 varies the initial compression of the resilient members 2. Leakage of air may occur between the nuts 7 and the adjacent face of the respective endpiece 3 or sleeve 5. In a modified construction (Fig. 3, not shown), a sealing washer may be carried by the nuts 7 to prevent leakage, and an orifice or orifices of pre-determined size are formed in the members 1 or 3 to allow a restricted flow of air into or out from the shockabsorber.
