Abstract
In obtaining alcohol of 94 DEG Gay-Lussac, alcoholic must is divided into two portions, one being distilled at atmospheric pressure and the other under reduced pressure, the resulting vaporous phlegm from the atmospheric pressure distillation and the liquid phlegm from the vacuum distillation being concentrated and rectified together in a rectification column operating at atmospheric pressure. One portion of the must is supplied through lines 1, 2 to distillation column B, which operates under atmospheric pressure, being preheated in vessel E by the vinasses leaving the base of the column. The resulting vaporous phlegms pass into rectifying column C. The other portion of the must is supplied through line 5 to column A, which operates under reduced pressure, the must being preheated in vessel D by the alcoholic vapours issuing from column A via line 6. The vapours are completely condensed in condenser F, the condensates flowing through lines 8 and 9 to tank P, and residual vapours passing through scrubber K. The condensate from tank P is pumped via preheater G, where it is preheated by the vinasses from column A, into <PICT:0626658/III/1> the rectification column C. The rectified vapours from column C pass through condenser-heater J and condenser H to yield head fractions. Distillation column B is heated by steam coil S, condensed steam being passed through line 20 to the alcohol condenser-heater J where it is vaporized under the reduced pressure produced by the pump L and passes through line 21 to bubble in and heat column A.
