Abstract
624,881. Induction heating. BIRLEC, Ltd., and QUICKE, K. G. Oct. 18, 1946, No. 31107. [Class 39(iii)] A mask of electrically conducting material is disposed partly or completely around the workpiece, and insulated therefrom, such as to absorb power from the magnetic field to promote uniform heating in substantially plane surfaces of the workpiece. In a preferred embodiment screw heads 1 are disposed in hexagonal holes 2 in the wheel-rim 3, of nickel-plated copper, constituting the mask. The outer surface is so shaped that the part 4 surrounding the trailing edge of each screw is higher than part 5 surrounding the leading edge. The screws, during rotation of the wheel, are heated by strip inductors, and are ejected and quenched at a pre-determined point in their passage.
