Abstract
624,781. Wave-guides. MILLING, M. C. CROWLEY-, and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1946, No. 35506. [Class 40 (v)] The lateral position of a section of a waveguide system with respect to its axis is made adjustable by including a looped portion between the movable section and a fixed section, the length of the loop being varied to maintain the electrical length of the wave-guide constant. The loop section may be connected to the fixed and movable wave-guide section through telescopic joints and a mechanical linkage provided so that variations in electrical length are automatically compensated. As shown, Figs. 2 and 4, the fixed guide A and the laterally movable guide C are integral with U-section members 1, 4 respectively. The U-shaped members 1, 4 co-operate with opposite sides of an H-section centre-piece 2 to form the sidearms B1, B3 of the loop wave-guide, the crossguide B2 of which is formed by a member 3 integral with the centre-piece 2. The centrepiece is preferably linked to the laterally movable guide C so that variations in electrical length due to adjustment of the lateral position of guide C are automatically compensated by variations in the electrical length of the loop guide B1, B2, B3.
