Abstract

624,357. Automatic guns. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., WOTTON, J., and FONSECA, E. C. M. D. June 27, 1945, No. 16430. [Class 92 (ii)] The supply of cartridges to one or a pair of machine or cannon guns 2a, 2b is maintained by a cartridge-belt fed from a box 4 to a stripping mechanism 1, the separated cartridges passing to the gun or guns through one or both of the expanding and contracting shoots 3a, 3b. The shoots each comprise fixed arcuate cylindrical portions 8a, 9a joined by chordal or like passages 12a on a spring-rotated drum 14a having fins 15a, 16a which traverse the arcuate portions. The shoot members are provided in the forked passages 6a, 6b arranged as in Specification 624,356 and leading from a single stripper mechanism 1 as described in Specification 598,658. The motor causing rotation of the stripper mechanism is controlled by switches arranged in parallel and opened when the shoot 3a expands to the limit shown on the left of the Figure. During a burst of gun fire, either shoot, under the action of a spring 20a or 20b, may contract to the position shown on the right of the Figure. Specifications 583,360 and 624,354 also are referred to.
