624,251. Floor sections. COLE, W. E. June 20, 1947, No. 16378. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A prefabricated floor section comprises a rectangular panel supported on a rectangular base. The base B comprises timber corner blocks 10, timber intermediate blocks 12 and length 14 of a timber substitute, all these being screwed or glued together. The panel P comprises a slab 16 of a timber substitute with wooden battens 18 fixed to its underside. The timber substitute is of softer material than the blocks 10, 12 and may be made of bonded sawdust. The material sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Plimber " is stated to be satisfactory. The battens 18 define wiring channels 20 aligned with openings 22 in the lengths 14. The sections are laid with the necessary shorter sections in staggered courses like brickwork. The lengths 14 and the edges of slats 16 are protected by timber strips or beads 24. The panel preferably protrudes beyond the base to avoid direct contact between the beads on the panel and on the base and to provide a space in which locking means are provided consisting of pins 26 secured to plates 30 on the corner pieces 10 and engaging bayonet slots 28 in plates 30 screwed to the blocks 12 which are hollowed out behind the plates. The blocks 10 are similarly hollowed out to receive the inner ends of the pins 26 and the securing nuts 32. A modified form of flooring section is square in shape with corner blocks of triangular section, with pin and hole locking means adapted, by arranging the arcs of the holes and pins out of parallel, to produce a wedging effect when the pins are engaged in the holes. The arrangement and shape of the battens may be varied. For permanent flooring the panels may be fixed to the bases by screws or glue. To increase the rigidity of the structure the blocks 12 may be joined by cross members 9 of suitable timber substitute.
