Abstract
4,41 - Bis - (2 - chloro - 4 - diethanolamino - 1,3,5-triazyl - (6)) - diaminostilbene - 2,21 - disulphonic acid, which is fluorescent in ultra-violet light and may be used to whiten textile materials, is prepared by condensing 2 mols. of cyanuric chloride with 1 mol. of a salt of 4,41-diamino-stilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid and 2 mols. of diethanolamine, in either order. When the diethanolamine is used in the second stage of the reaction, more than 2 mols. may be used. In an example, 4,41-diaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid is dissolved in aqueous caustic soda and added to a suspension of cyanuric chloride; diethanolamine is then added.ALSO:4,41 - Bis - (2 - chloro - 4 - diethanolamino-1,3,5 - triazyl - (6)) - diaminostilbene - 2,21-disulphonic acid (see Group IV (b)), which is fluorescent to ultra-violet light, is used for whitening textiles.
