Abstract
623,401. Hydraulic presses. ERNST, W. July 1, 1946, No. 19674. [Class 69 (ii)] Fluid flow to a hydraulic press ram is controlled by a valve 19, the position of which is adjusted by fluid pressure through the solenoidactuated valves 40, 47, 49 and 54, these being operated from an electric circuit. When the starting switch 73 is operated, solenoid 72 moves valve 40, pressure fluid from pipes 55, 38 moving valve 19 so that liquid below the piston 2 escapes to exhaust whilst the piston descends by gravity. When switch 115a is contacted, valve 47 is actuated to move valvo 19 so that pressure fluid is supplied above the piston 2. Pressure fluid supply is stopped either when the total load exceeds a limit, or the switch 119 is operated by the cam 92. In either case valve 54 is' actuated to shift the control valve 19, supplying pressure fluid for retraction. Press movement can be stopped at any point in the stroke by the switch 131, and reverse movement can be initiated at any time by switch 122. If leakage occurs with the ram in its retracted position, allowing ram to descend, switch 91 reverses valve 47 and supplies a small quantity of pressure fluid through lines 55, 57, 48, 43 and 66 to lift ram to original position.
