Abstract

623,381. Valve-gear. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and WEAVING, J. H. Feb. 12, 1946, No. 4289. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] A piston valve is operated by a cam, and a stop or stops are so arranged that the valve is positively supported when closed. As applied to a twostroke engine the valve E controlling intake ports D is connected by a rod F to a crank pin g carried by a pair of cranks G each integral with a short shaft H journalled in bearings and carrying tension springs forcing the cranks G against a stop P, in which position the pivots e, g are in line and the valve is held rigidly closed. A cam M acting on a roller K opens the valve by rotating the cranks G, which are returned against the stop P as soon as the cam M clears the roller K. In a four-stroke engine two piston valves controlling intake and exhaust ports are arranged in side branches of the cylinder.
