[Class 20(iv)] In a building construction a main support or " spine " 1 designed to meet lateral stresses supports flooring units 4, also supported by walling units 2 constructed mainly to meet vertical loads. The spine, preferably located near the centre line of the building, may be cast in situ or formed of precast parts or of structural steel and may incorporate a lift-well, stairway or ventilating shaft. Horizontal members 5 at floor level forming part of the floor have ledges 6 receiving the flooring units; vertical members 7, 8 fit into or form part of party-walls.
