Abstract
621,841. Resilient mountings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 1, 1945, No. 79. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1943. [Class 108 (iii)] A resilient mounting device comprises, a pair of support members 10, 23, Fig. 1, provided with a resilient connection 18 therebetween, spaced apart stops 14, 15 secured to one of the support members, means for securing a piston 24 to the other support member, and a friction damping means including a split cylindrical spring element 25 fitted about the piston 24 and arranged to engage the stops with predetermined clearance between the spring and the stops. The resilient member 18 comprises a rubber ring, moulded or bonded between the lower portion 12 of a casing 12, 13 secured to the member 10, and a sleeve 19 secured by sleeves 20, 21 and a bolt 22 to the member 23. The stops 14, 15 are formed by inturned ends of the portions 12, 13 of the casing. Free vibrations of small amplitude are permitted by the provision of a clearance 26 which permits the sleeve 25 to have limited movement between the stops 14, 15. Larger vibrations are damped by movement of the piston 24 relative to the sleeve 25. In a second construction, Fig. 3, the resilient member comprises two coiled springs 28 mounted directly between the supported and supporting members 26, 27. Stop-rings 33, 34 bolted to the member 26 determine the amplitude of free vibrations by limiting the displacement of a ring 32 secured to a spring sleeve 31 which surrounds a friction damping piston 36 attached to the member 27.
