Abstract

620,215. Thermal switches. SINCLAIR, H., and MURPHY, G. C. Jan. 9. 1947, No. 732. [Class 38(v)] A switch for a fire-alarm comprises two bimetallic strips 11. 13 carrying contacts 14, 15 in the form of mutually-perpendicular ribs and preloaded by screws 16, 17. As the temperature rises both strips deflect toward a stop 10 which arrests the strip 11 whereby the strip 13 overtakes it and the contacts 14, 15 engage to close an alarm circuit connected to terminals 6, 7. If the temperature rises quickly, the strip 13 deflects more rapidly than the strip 11 which has an insulating covering 12, and the alarm circuit is closed sooner.
