Abstract
A complex copper compound suitable for metallizing dyeings is obtained by adding triethanolamine to a suspension of cupric acetate in water, heating to 80 DEG C., distilling off the water at reduced pressure, triturating the residue with acetone and separating the compound which solidifies.ALSO:The fastness of dyeings or prints produced with water-soluble substantive dyestuffs is improved by after-treating the dyed or printed material with an aqueous solution of a complex copper compound and a basic condensation product of formaldehyde with a compound containing at least once the atomic grouping <FORM:0619969/IV (c)/1> or a compound easily converted into such a compound. The after-treatment bath may be rendered alkaline, e.g. with sodium carbonate. As complex copper compounds there may be used complex copper salts containing ammonia or an amine such as trimethylamine, triethanolamine, ethylenediamine, pyridine or 8-aminoquinoline, or the complex copper compounds of oxycarboxylic acids such as glycollic, lactic or tartaric acid. Suitable basic condensation products are obtained by condensing formaldehyde with dicyandiamide, dicyandiamidine, guanidine, acetoguanidine, biguanide, melamine or cyanamide. Examples are given in which dyeings with various specified water-soluble substantive dyestuffs are after-treated in a bath containing (1) tetrammine-cupric acetate and the condensation product from dicyandiamidine and formaldehyde; (2) ethylenediamine-cupric acetate and the condensation product as in (1); (3) tetrammine-cupric sulphamate, ammonia and the condensation product as in (1); (4) the copper complex from cupric acetate, triethanolamine and sodium carbonate, and the condensation product as in (1); (5) tetrammine-cupric acetate, sodium carbonate and the condensation product as in (1); (6) diethylenediamine-cupric acetate, sodium carbonate and the condensation product as in (1); (7) as in (5); (8) the copper complex from triethanolamine and cupric acetate, sodium carbonate and the condensation product as in (1); (9) the copper complex from cupric acetate, ammonium chloride and sodium carbonate, and the condensation product as in (1). In a further example: (10) a printed cotton fabric is after-treated in a bath containing copper sodium tartrate and the condensation product from dicyandiamidine and formaldehyde. Specifications 536,480 and 599,830 are referred to.
