Abstract
619,890. Addressing &c. machines; cutting and delivery apparatus. LAMSON PARAGON SUPPLY CO., Ltd., and GARWOOD, V. W. Aug. 30, 1946, No. 26155. [Classes 100(i) and 100(ii)] In addressing or like machines wherein printing plates are fed in succession to printing position, a paper web is fed intermittently past the printing position and is printed while it is stationary and the printed web is cut into sheets when the web is stationary, two separate driving-mechanisms are provided each being driven from a printing-arm which reciprocates a printing-head in a vertical plane, one mechanism operating the web-feed and the other a guillotine cutter. Feeding forms &c. - A stationery pack is fed during the non-printing stroke of a rocking aim 5 carrying a printing-head, by pins on a sprocket carried by a chain driven by a gear 26 fixed to a shaft 21 rotated intermittently by a pawl 24 and ratchet 25 actuated by a rod 7 pivoted to a bracket 7c detachably connected to the arm 5. A detent roller 34 engaging a notched wheel 32 on the shaft 21 prevents movement of the feed mechanism during the printing stroke. The chain is adjustable bodily to suit the width of the stationery. A brake 90 prevents overrun of the chain drive. Sheet guides.-Printed stationery passes between guides comprising spring blades 10a fixed to a bracket 13, and co-operating blades 10b carrying screws 15 at one end such that on turning grooved nuts 14 engaging a bar 12, the blades 10b may be adjusted vertically. Cutting.-A guillotine cutter comprises a fixed blade 35 and a blade mounted in a carrier 43 actuated by an arm 53 rocked from a rod 7 acting through a ratchet and detent mechanism like that for the paper feed. The carrier 43 is slotted to engage a pivot pin 45 and a guide pin 49, whereby the blade has a draw-cut action. The whole of the cutting - mechanism is mounted on screwed spindles 39, 40 rotatable by turning a shaft 42 to adjust the mechanism to vary the length cut off. The web is prevented from moving during cutting, by spring-pressed pins 72 depressed by a bar 73 having spring plungers 75 engaging the pins. The bar 73 is carried by parallel links 74 and is raised by the arm 53 and pressed towards the paper by springs 74a. Delivering sheets.-Conveyer bands 83 pass over a roller and over pulleys 81a on a shaft 81 driven from a shaft 29; preferably, the bands travel slower than the paper so that the cut sheets overlap. The conveyer mechanism is adjustable with the cutting-mechanism and may be formed as an attachment carried by a base-plate 8. The Provisional Specification describes an upper, spring-loaded cutting-blade periodically released by a cam.
