619,323. Switchgear structures. NIJLAND, H. A. H. Dec. 2, 1946. No. 35706. Conven. tion date, Jan. 16. [Class 38 (v)] A switchgear structure has an outer metal tank 7 and an inner insulating wall 8, 9, 10 with contact rings 11, 12 connected to insulated lead-in conductors 14, 15, the space between the two walls being filled with insulating material, though the central chamber may be open to the atmosphere. The circuitbreaker, which may be removed from this structure whilst the conductors 14, 15 are alive, is formed of insulating tubes 4, 5 enclosing a moving contact 3 and supporting fixed contacts 2, 1 having resilient portions 16, 17 engaging in the rings 11, 12. These rings 11, 12 are extended to form screens which shield the fixed switch contacts from electrical stresses though in a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), screens are placed in the space 13 and connected to the rings 11, 12.
