[Class 138 (i)] A windscreen-cleaner comprises an elongated elastic body 8 formed with a wiping edge 16, one or more spring leaves 9 disposed in a longitudinal chamber 15 in the body 8 so as to bear against the back wall thereof, and a mounting- bracket 19 having spaced pairs of jaws 23 which grip the sides of the body and thereby cause the latter to grip the spring leaf or leaves ; the mounting bracket 19 is spaced from that portion of the body 8 disposed between the pairs of jaws so that the body may flex into conformity with the surface being wiped. The spring backing shown in Fig. 2 consists of a plurality of thin leaves 10 which overlap at their inner ends so as to provide a heavy central portion 11, Fig. 3, and extend alternately in opposite directions therefrom and for progressively decreasing distances from the lowermost leaf upwards. A tie leaf 13 underlies this backing, and the two uppermost leaves 101 are co-extensive with this leaf. The bracket 19 is in the form of an elongated bridge which is detachably connected by a device 20 to the outer section 3 of the actuating arm and is connected at its ends by pivots 21 to upstanding ears 22 ; each ear consists of a spring loop joining a pair of jaws 23 embracing the sides of the body 8. A key 24 engages freely in registering openings 26 in the several layers of the spring, being provided with shoulders to seat upon the uppermost leaves 10<SP>1</SP>. The key fits within notches 28 in the jaws 23 and is prevented from upward movement by the pin 21. The ears 22 and keys 24 are so disposed as to support the intermediate and thickened part 11 of the spring under tension.
