Abstract
617,895. Winding yarn. SUTTON, R. Aug. 6, 1946, No. 3701. [Class 120(ii)] In a pirn-winding machine having compensating means for equalising the tension in the yarn during the chases effected by the traverse guide, the compensating means working in synchronism with the traverse guide, yarn from supply Q is led over a pulley R<SP>1</SP>, thence about pulleys S and S' to the thread guide m adjustably oscillated on a pivoted lever by a cam l in a cross shaft L. The pulley S is oscillated with a lever S<SP>2</SP> by a cam l<SP>1</SP> on the shaft L, the pivot S<SP>4</SP> of the lever S<SP>2</SP> being gradually moved, to increase fhe oscillation of the pulley S while the base of the pirn is formed, by contact of the pirn-carrying carriage F with a runner s<SP>6</SP> on the lever S<SP>3</SP> carrying the pivot s<SP>4</SP> of the lever S<SP>2</SP>. When the pirn-base is completed movement of the pivot s<SP>4</SP> ceases. The pirn is held between supports b, b<SP>1</SP>, the support b being driven by a shaft B from a reversible motor D<SP>1</SP> through belt and pulley drives e<SP>1</SP> d<SP>2</SP>, e; e<SP>2</SP>, e<SP>3</SP> b<SP>4</SP> ; and shaft E. The end support b<SP>1</SP> is mounted on an arm B' slidable on a tube C through which extends a rod C<SP>1</SP> the one end of which carries the motor switch contact and the other end a knob c' which can be manually operated to stop or start the motor. The rod C<SP>1</SP> carries a grooved collar engaged by a catch P which holds the motor switch D<SP>2</SP> closed until manually operated or operated by a dagger O on the pirn carriage pressing against a surface p<SP>4</SP> thereon and so open the switch and stop the motor when the pirn has reached the required size. The carriage F is traversed by a screwed rod F<SP>1</SP> with which a half-nut f on an arm f<SP>1</SP> engages, the rod F' receiving its motion from a gear train driven by a cone H contacting frictionally the coned face of the pirn. The gear train is such that whether the pirn is winding in one direction or the other for "S" or "Z" twist yarn, the rod F<SP>1</SP> can be driven in the same direction. The pulley S<SP>1</SP> is carried on an arm s attached to a spring-urged three-armed lever so that if the thread breaks or the supply fails, a brake r' is applied to the pulley R' and a rod p' draws the catch P from the rod C' to open the switch D<SP>2</SP> and stop the motor. A bunch building mechanism is included which operates to stop the normal traverse of the guide m. This mechanism is operated by a cam l<SP>2</SP> on the shaft L which oscillates a lever v<SP>1</SP> to operate a ratchet wheel v<SP>3</SP> having a cutaway portion, so that after a predetermined number of revolutions a lever U, secured to the shaft governing the runner m<SP>4</SP> of the traverse motion, moves to allow the runner m<SP>4</SP> to contact the traverse cam L When this happens, a projection u on the runner shaft trips the ratchet pawl and normal winding ensues.
