Abstract

617,652. Drying solid fuels. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., and WILLIAMS, N. H. Oct. 10, 1946, No. 30277. [Class 34 (ii) ] Apparatus for drying wet solid fuels, such as peat, in a chamber 3 before entering a gas producer 1, comprises a heat exchanger 10 whereby a drying gas, preferably the gas produced in 1, which will not ignite the fuel is heated. The gas leaves the producer via pipeline 6 and passes through a cleaning plant 7 and thence to a turbine 2, the hot exhaust gases from which are conveyed through a pipeline 12 to a heat exchanger 10. Gas from the main 6 is conveyed through a pipe line 8 to a booster 15 and the heat exchanger 10 where sensible heat from the turbine exhaust gases is transferred to it, and it passes thence through a pipe line 11 into the drying chamber 3. This gas and moisture from the wet fuel is returned to the booster 15 via cleaning means 14 where excess moisture may be removed.
