[Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XVIII] In an apparatus for weighing and lifting materials, of the kind having a skip which in its loading position acts as a weighing pan and is adapted to be moved to a discharging position, the skip is associated with a lifting member adapted for direct engagement with and disengagement from the skip, the arrangement being such that when the skip is resting on the weighing platform the said member can be lowered out of engagement with it, while upward movement of the said member will cause it to engage with the skip for the purpose of directly and completely raising the latter from the platform. The skip 1, Fig. 1, when lifted, is supported by a tubular yoke 2 on which is mounted a member 8 engaging under a cross-bar 9 which, together with yoke-engaging members 10 is attached to the skip. When the rope 7, which freely passes through the tubular yoke 2, is wound off the winch (not shown), the yoke pivots about a rod 5, deposits the skip on the weighing platform 11 and then disengages itself from the members 10 and the bar 9 taking up a position, indicated in chain dotted lines, resting on block 12, which leaves the skip freely supported on platform 11. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, skip 13 is similarly supported by a yoke 14, having additional struts 14a, 14b, pivotally mounted on one axle 20 of a carriage 21, having rollers 22, 23 which engage an inclined guide-way 25, which carriage carries struts 26 to which are attached a skip support pad 26a, and adjustable set screws 27a held by brackets 27. When the skip is hoisted by cable 16, the skip, yoke and carriage, to which the yoke is temporarily attached by a pivoted latch 29 and a pin 30, are hauled up the incline 25 until the limb 28 of latch 29 strikes a stop 32, after which the yoke and skip are free to pivot about the axle 20. When the skip is in its loading position on the weighing platform 33 the carriage and yoke take up a position, as shown in chaindotted lines, free of the skip with the yoke resting on the set screws 27a. In an embodiment described in the Provisional Specification a yoke engaging plate is fixed to the rear portion of the skip in addition to members 10 and the cross bar 9.
