616,579. Grinding cutting-tools. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS AKTIEBOLAG. Sept. 11, 1946, No. 27336. Convention date, Sept. 21, 1945. [Class 60] A work holder or rest for use when grinding or lapping a cutting tool such as that shown in Figs. 9-11, comprises a parallelogram-shaped plate 9 having grooves 11 and 12 of rectangular cross-section for the reception of the shank 1 of the tool extending across one face, the bottom surfaces of the grooves being inclined with respect to the opposite face of the plate both longitudinally and transversely of the grooves. The angle A between the sides of the grooves and the sides 13, 14 of the plate is equal to the bevel angle a of the tool, and the angle B between the sides of the grooves and the sides 15, 16 of the plate is the complement of the face angle b of the tool. The angles of inclination of the bottoms of the grooves 11 and 12 correspond respectively to the clearance angles d, f and c, e of the tool. The bottom face of the plate is formed with a recess 17 which merges into a gauging hole 21. The plate is intended for use in a machine having a grinding wheel with a vertical face and a horizontal work table, and is positioned with one or other of the pairs of sides 13, 14 and 15, 16 parallel to the grinding wheel face.
