Abstract

615,051. Sorting vegetables, fruit &c. G. C. ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and LOCK, A. Aug. 20, 1946, No. 24781. [Class 117] In a grading-by-size machine of the kind comprising a plurality of side-by-side gradually mutually-diverging endless conveyer cables, adjoining cables a, b, are driven at different speeds so that the articles e.g. fruit, vegetables, are turned to present the smallest dimension to the grading gap. The cables a, b are led around and are driven by sheaves f, g, alternately of different diameters and all fast on a common driving spindle hand at the other end of their run alternate cables e.g. a are led around sheaves m fast on spindle n whereas the sheaves o of cables b are loose on spindle n. Tubular spacer sleeves separate sheaves m and o. Spindle n, driven by cables a, drives, through chain and sprocket wheels r, the elevator belt c feeding the articles to the grading element a, b.
