Abstract
614,721. Folding furniture frames. FAY, T. A. July 22, 1946, No. 21829. [Class 52 (iii)] A foldable table or the like comprises two supporting surface parts of inverted tray form hinged together so as to be folded to form an enclosed space within which the legs are contained, the legs being hinged on the same pivot as the said surface parts. As shown a table top is formed of two sheet metal parts 3, 5 having on their sides and outer edges depending flanges 7, 9 which are inturned as at 43, 41 and on their inner edges flanges 21, 23 which are pivoted on a hinge pin 19 about which the main leg members 15, 17 of flat bar U-shape also hinge. To the outer ends of the main legs 15, 17 are pivoted at 29, 31 auxiliary leg members 25, 27 the upper ends of which slide in slots 53, 55 formed on the undersides of the table top parts by means of welded bars 49, 51. Stays 37, 39 pivoted together at 57 are also pivoted to the main leg members 15, 17 and are provided with sleeves 33, 35 which slide on the auxiliary leg members 25, 27. To fold the table the joint between the stays 37, 39 is broken upwardly and the table top parts 3, 5 folded downwardly by means of the handles 65, 67 whereupon the main and auxiliary leg members fold and are accommodated between the table top parts.
