Abstract
A process for the delustring and/or colouring of fibrous material comprises the application thereto of a mixture in an alcohol-free aqueous medium of a pigment and/or colouring matter and a methyl, ethyl or propyl ether of a precondensate of formaldehyde and an aminotriazine, after which application the material is dried and heated to complete the formation of the resin. The preferred ether is the tri-methyl ether of tri-methylol melamine. The pigments may be water-insoluble delustring pigments such as titanium dioxide, blanc fixe, china clay; pigment colours insoluble in aqueous media including pigment dyestuffs, inorganic pigments and lakes and toners derived from soluble dyestuffs; aniline black; dyestuff derivatives and intermediates with or without affinity for the material to which they are to be fixed. Water soluble dyestuffs include those forming true solutions and those forming colloidal solutions. Impregnation may be complete, or the mixture may be formed into a printing paste and printed and fixed by steaming. Resist effects may be utilized. The process is applicable to all textile materials, pure and tussore silks, cotton, rayon, nylon and other synthetic fibres. The finish is resistant to laundering. In an example 10 parts of a concentrated paste comprising 30 parts of titanium dioxide, 25 parts of the tri-methyl ether of trimethylol melamine, 5 parts powdered gelatine and 40 parts of water (all parts by weight) are mixed with 90 parts water and a viscose filament fabric impregnated in the liquor. Excess liquid is removed, the fabric dried and cured for 10 minutes at 140 DEG C., resulting in a permanent delustered finish. In a further example a cotton fabric is printed with a paste of 15 parts Irgalite Yellow GS paste, 7.5 parts of an 80 per cent syrup of trimethyl trimethylol melamine, with gun tragacanth, a dispersing agent and water to 100 parts, and after drying is baked or steamed to fix the print. Delustring effects may also be produced together with the print. Specification 614,047 is referred to.
