Abstract
613,482. Snap-action switches. DONOVAN ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd., and HAYWARD, W. H. June 8,1946, No. 17333. [Class 38 (v)], A switch-fuse has four breaks in series such that when the switch is in the open position, the fuse d is completely isolated. The pairs of moving contacts e co-operate with fixed con. tacts c<1>, c<2> connected respectively to the fuse d and the mains, and mounted on cross-bars b, b<1>, between two side panels a. Motion is imparted by a cross-bar f rigidly connected to a handle-actuated spindle f<3>, together with links g pivoted at m<2> to plates m having projections m<1>, which slide in slots a<1> in the panels a and rigidly support cross-bars l and clamps k in which are slidably mounted spring- loaded studs to which are secured the contacts c. The contacts c<2> are bent at right angles so that the arcs formed thereat are directed away from those formed at c<1>. A spring-toggle mechanism n imparts a snap-action to close the contacts when the cross-bar f rotates anticlockwise. In an alternative arrangement, the contacts, Fig. 2 (not shown), are disposed with their surfaces vertical to obviate the collection of dust.
