Abstract

[Class 6 (iii)] Relates to combine harvesters of the kind in which the sickle bar extends along the entire width of the machine. According to the invention, a conveyer 21a connects the harvester part A to the thresher part B, and a feeder assembly is disposed above the conveyer, a part of said feeder assembly being a crop engaging member D which positively engages the crop material during the downward and rearward rotation of a portion of the feeder assembly. In the construction shown, a reel 20 directs the crop to a sickle bar 19 and thence when cut to a pair of opposed augers 21 which convey the crop to the central longitudinally extending conveyer 21a, the crop cut along the whole width of the combine thereby passing to the thresher part B through a feeder housing C. The drum feeder device D (Fig. 3) in the housing comprises a shell 27 with end walls 29 from which trunnions extend to bearings in the side walls of the housing. A tubular shaft or pipe 44 is carried by arms 42 the stub shafts 40, 41 of which are mounted in the trunnions. A series of arms 47 are mounted on said pipe, all but one 47a (Fig. 3) of each series having a limited pivotal movement, the fixed one serving to rotate the shaft in unison with the drum. The arms all project through slots in the drum and since the axis of the drum is offset with respect to that of the shaft (which is fixed as arms 42 do not rotate) rotation of the drum and shaft causes the arms to project out to varying extents, the greatest being towards the auger side of the machine so that the crop is positively engaged and urged rearwardly and, as the arms retract, is not carried forwardly again.
