Abstract
612,938. Grinding razor blade strip. FAIREST, Ltd., M., FAIREST, M., and FAIREST, D. H. June 11, 1946, No. 17345. [Class 60] A machine for grinding razor blade strip in which the grinding is carried out on parallel runs of the strip, comprises two pairs of grinding heads 11 facing each other and separated by a narrow space in the centre of the machine, friction guides 19A, 19B to hold the strip 29 against the operative faces of each pair of heads, means 21, 23, 24 to retract the guides from the grinding heads, pull-through rolls 25A, 25B to draw the strip in the same direction through the guides, and an idle roller 30 of small diameter co-operating with one of the pull-through rolls which is of small diameter, to reverse the direction of movement of the strip within the narrow space, first when the strip leaves the first guide 19A and then when it is about to enter the second guide 19B, the pull-through rolls and idler roller being disposed at the ends of the narrow space and the means to retract the friction guides being disposed within the space. The grinding heads are adjustable vertically and horizontally towards or from the strip. The strip is delivered slack to both guides.
