612,461. Screw propellers. JABLONSKY, B., and JABLO PROPELLERS, Ltd. May 24, 1946, No. 15753. [Class 114] The blades of a variable-pitch propeller for an aircraft having both jet propulsion and screw propellers, are foldable and adapted to be retracted against the hull of the aircraft to reduce air-resistance when the propeller is not operating. The propeller hub 2 carries a forked member to which the root of the blade 1 is pivoted by a pin 3 and the root extends as a pin 13 into the blade where it is secured by a nut 18. An anti-friction lining 16 surrounds the pin and ball bearings 14, 15 permit the blade to rotate about the pin as it folds back on to the hull, a toothed segment 11 on the blade socket 12 engaging a like segment 10 on the forked member. Cushioning devices may minimise shock when the blade reaches its extreme positions. Specification 568,606 is referred to.
