612,205. Cylinders and valve gear of twostroke engines. MEINERTZ, M. F. May 17, 1946, No. 15038. Convention date, May 17, 1945. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In a double-acting two-stroke cylinder with piston-controlled admission ports 33, exhaust poppet valves 13, 14 are provided, two being arranged at the lower end, one on each side of the piston rod as shown. The cylinders comprise bell-shaped steel barrels 2, 3 which are clamped by flanges 5, 6 to a part of the engine frame. They have flanges 7, 8 with passages 17 for valves and accessories, and sliding bearing surfaces for water jackets 9, 10 clamped at their inner ends. Cast-iron liners 32, 34, 35 are provided, the liners 34, 35 being pressed or shrunk into the cylinder barrels. The two exhaust valves 14 are operated from the camshaft 18 by a push-rod 21, a rocker 23, a crossshaft 26, further rockers 25, 25<1>, and pushrods 27. Lubrication is by splash from the crankcase.
