Abstract

610,918. Floor-polishing machines. NEWMAN, H. April 9, 1946, No. 10911. [Class 138 (i)] A floor-polishing apparatus comprises a suction nozzle at the front of the casing, a rotary pad for applying polishing material, arranged adjacent to and behind the nozzle, a rotary brush for polishing, a fan for the suction nozzle, and an electric motor for driving the three-pad, brush and fan. A rotary pad 6, driven by a motor 34, is rotatably mounted on a spindle 14 in levers 15 pivotally mounted on a bracket 17. Polishing material is fed from a tank 9 to a cut-off valve 10, which supplies the pad 6. The cut-off valve comprises two concentric perforated tubes, the inner tube being rotated by a lever 13 and a link 21 connected to the lever 15 so as to bring the perforations into or out of co-incidence to supply the material to the pad or to cut-off the supply thereto. The lever 15 is connected to a U-shaped frame 24 by a link 23. A cam 50 rotated by a knob 51 is used to lock the frame 24 in a rearward position so as to raise the pad 6 and shut-off the supply of polishing material, when the apparatus is not in use. The supply may be renewed by rotating the knob 51 and pushing the frame 24 forwards by means of a handle 28. A fan 30, driven by the motor 34, is connected to a vacuum nozzle 20, the air passing through a dust bag 31 to nozzles 36 to dry the floor in advance of the polishing brush 7, which is driven by the motor 34 and mounted on a spindle 37 in slots 41 in brackets 26.
