Abstract
610,360. Aerials. OWEN, A. R. G., KNAGGS, H., and BUCKINGHAM, J. March 30, 1946, No. 9941. [Class 40 (vii)] A directional aerial system, particularly for use in ship-borne radar systems and having an asymmetrical polar diagram in the vertical plane so as to minimize reflections from the'surface of the sea, comprises a wave-guide horn 1, having a rectangular aperture and fed from or feeding into a rectangular wave-guide 2, the horn being in this case, where the radiation is vertically polarized, symmetrical about the vertical plane intersecting the axis of the horn and asymmetrical about the horizontal plane. The point 0, the intersection of the axis of the wave-guide 2 with the plane of the aperture, is arranged at the focus of a parabolic reflector, and the radiation characteristic then decreases slowly in the upward direction and decreases rapidly downwards.
