Abstract
610,346. Temperature-responsive actuating-elements. NEWTON, E. P. (Telefonaktiebolaget L. M. Ericsson.). March 15, 1946, No. 8178. [Class 64(ii)] A thermo - contact more especially for f i r e installations, comprises two bimetallic strips fastened at one end to a base or the like, and soldered together at their other -ends by an easily fusible alloy, said strips when so soldered being entirely on opposite sides of a dividing plane passing through the soldering point and perpendicular to the main limbs of the strips. The strips 1, joined by solder 3 are mounted on base 2 so as to have only a small tendency to separate. This tendency increases with rise in temperature until the melting point of the solder is reached, when the strips move to the positions shown in dotted lines and contact is broken. In a modification. Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), the plane of the strips is perpendicular to that of the base. In a further modification, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the planes of the strips when soldered together form an angle with each other. The strips may be soldered without first being bent at the ends, and they may also be mounted so as to flex in the same direction on heating.
