[Class 39(iii)] [Also in Groups II and XII] A furnace for producing metal from a reducible compound thereof (see Groups II and XII) comprises a reduction tube 12 covered with a suitable insulating material 13 which is enclosed in a sheet metal envelope 14, the tube being heated to different temperatures along its length by heating resistances 15, 16 and 17.
