[Classes 9 (i), 9 (ii) and 77] [Also in Group XXX] A method of advancing a land mine against enemy lines from a base station 10 (Fig. 2) to an advance point A comprises projecting a single cable B from the base station to the advance point and anchoring the cable at the advance point A so as to extend the cable between the base station and the advance point, fastening the base station end of the cable to take-up reel mounted on a frame E for hauling the mine, unwinding a second cable G from a second reel also mounted on the frame and applying the rotation of the second reel to the first reel to wind the first cable thereon and so advance the frame. The projectile A which is connected to cable B wound on reel 11 is of the anchoring kind described in Specification 627,835 and is projected from gun 10 so as to embed itself securely. The free end of the cable is passed through nose 32 of frame E and is attached to drum D (Fig. 6) which is geared by chain 19 to drum H, both being mounted on frame 13, which is slidden into frame E on rail 22 and secured therein by lug 26 which is snapped in by spring 25. When tension is applied to rope G wound on to drum H, rotation of the latter drum causes rotation of the first drum and the carriage moves forward. The nose 30 may be pivoted at 31 so as to wobble and avoid obstables and the cable may be guided by one or two guides 28. Drum H may be divided into sections (Fig. 4a) so as to vary the driving ratio and hence the force propelling the frame forward, and the projectile may be weighted and spiked.
