Abstract

609,567. Flexible tube ferrules. LUCAS, Ltd., J., TAYLOR, H. C., and HEELEY, J. E. March 16, 1946, No. 8217. [Class 99 (i)] A ferrule for attachment to the end of rubber, canvas or other flexible tubing, particularly that used as sheathing for electric cables, comprises a pair of complementary metal parts respectively adapted to be placed within and over the tube end b, one end of the inner part d having an annular enlargement e over which the tube end is stretched and the outer part a being formed with a complementary shoulder g between which and the enlargement e the tube end can be gripped when tension is applied to the tube. The end c of the outer part has a number of inwardly directed tongues h which on pulling the tube to compress it between the parts e and g, bite into the material of the tube and serve as a lock to maintain the gripping action when the tension on the tube is released. A rubber or like sheath f is shown surrounding the part a which may serve as a housing for a connector or other fitting attached to the cable.
