Abstract

609,476. Supplying current to rotating conductors. TEMPLETON, J. C. Feb. 7, 1944, No. 2234. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XX] A bearing for electrical apparatus through which current is conveyed to a moving part, comprises a coned pivot pin 15, Fig. 3, e.g. of tungsten, engaging a socket 17 in the cooperating part and formed as a cone of slightly larger angle. The socket may be formed of platinum-iridium and has a small central aperture 19 producing line contact of this small diameter. The bearing is described and shown providing one circuit for the current supply to the motor of an electric induction motor gyroscope (see Group XX). Fig. 4 shows the mounting spindle 21 for the gyroscope yoke through which current is conveyed to the motor by two other circuits comprising spring contacts 32, 33 bearing on coaxial conductors 26, 29 running through the said spindle which is rotatably mounted by ball races 22, 23 in the main frame 10. Alternatively, bearings of the type shown in Fig. 3 may be used at the upper and lower ends of the gyroscope yoke, which bearings when insulated from the yoke, may. be used for two of the motor circuits. Further, ball races may be used at the top and bottom of the yoke with a single central insulated conductor similar to that shown in Fig. 4. Specification 609,475, [Group XX], is referred to.
