Abstract
608,642. Agricultural implements. HOSIER, A. J., BOMFORD, D. R., and WHATLEY, A. Jan. 28, 1946, Nos. 2769 and 20974. [Class 6(i)] A reversible plough, of the kind having a plough beam supported between a forecarriage and a rear carriage approximately longitudinally of the machine, is connected to a tractor in such a manner that the turning of the tractor at the end of a furrow automatically effects reversal of the plough bodies. In the form shown, the plough beam 1 carrying sets of plough bodies 2, 3 is pivotally connected to a forecarriage 6 by cranks 4 and 13 and to a rear axle 11 by a crank 9. The forecarriage 6 is supported by height-adjusting means (not shown) upon an axle 7 carrying ground wheels 8. The rear axle 11 carries rear wheels 12 mounted in forked brackets 32 joined by a track rod 34 which constrains the wheels to move in unison. A draw-bar 19, pivotally mounted on the fore carriage, can swing from side to side as the tractor turns but is normally locked in a central position. A beam 15, connected at one end to the draw-bar and pivoted at a central point 16, swings with the draw bar. The rearward end of the beam 15 is connected by a chain 21 to the cranked plough beam. At the end of a furrow the draw bar is unlocked and swings with the tractor, causing the cranked plough beam to swing about its pivots into a position slightly past the vertical, where it is retained by a catch 23. The tractor and plough are then manipulated into position for the next furrow and the draw-bar again locked in a central position. On release of the catch 23 the plough beam will fall into a new position in which a fresh set of plough bodies is in operation. Specification 535,635 is referred to.
