Abstract
608,614. Winding yarn. ABBEY, A. (Universal Winding Co.). Oct. 4, 1945, No. 25907. [Class 120(ii)] A device for winding a reserve length of yarn on the yarn-carrier of a winding machine comprises a yarn-retaining member arranged to hold the yarn to prevent its traverse by the traversing means and adapted to be shifted from an initial yarnrestraining position into a releasing position, to permit the yarn to be traversed by the traversing means, in combination with resetting means for automatically returning the yarn-retaining member to its initial position after it has released the yarn, the arrangement being such that the yarn-retaining member is returned to such a position that the engagement of the yarn therewith will immediately cause it to be acuated by the traversing means to start winding a reserve length of yarn on the yarn-carrier. The end of the yarn y is attached to the cop tube T and passed over the crotch 42 of a resilient wire 41 attached at 39, 40, to a support 27 secured to the traverse frame back 19. The wire 41 is bent, as shown, at 43, 44, 46, 47 passing through a slot 37 in an ear 36 of the support 27, the portion 44 being kept from beneath the slot 37 by the tension in the yarn y. Upon contact of the reciprocating thread guide 10 with the portion 47, the crotch is moved to give a slight traverse to the yarn to wind a number of bunch coils of yarn on the tube T, the yarn tension thus pulling the crotch lower so that at the next stroke of the traverse guide 10 it will contact the portion 43 of the wire 41 to tilt the crotch and remove the yarn therefrom, the yarn moving into the notch 30 of the guide 10 for normal traverse. In a modification, Fig. 14, the yarn-retaining notch 71 is formed on a member 62 spring-biassed upwardly in a bracket 48 adjustably attached at 55 to the traverse frame back. The member 62 formed with a toe 83 carries a verticallymovable traverse-guide contacting member 84 formed with a toe 87. The yarn pulls the member 62 downwardly, until prevented by a stop 60 so that as the thread guide in its pivot movement strikes the shoulder of the member 84 the member 62 is rotated to move the shoulder 79 from the stop 60 to allow further downward movement of the member 62, this movement ceasing as toe 83 on the member 62 strikes the top of the yarn guide holder A small traverse is thus imparted to the yarn by the crotch 71 to wind a number of bunch coils on the tube. Upon the next movement of the yarn guide, it contacts the toe 83 to rock the member 62 so that the yarn is forced from the crotch 71 by a curved edge 59 of the bracket 48, and moves into the traverse guide for normal winding.
