Abstract
608,423. Automatic control systems for electricity supply; converting. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., and DOUBLE, H. S. Fob. 22, 1946, No. 5636. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] Voltage.-In a rectifying arrangement in which the output voltage is regulated by a saturable choke in its input circuit, the choke has a currentcontrolled D.C. winding carrying all or part of the output current, and a voltage-controlled winding energized by the output of a magnetic amplifier, the input or control current of which is derived from a fourterminal network comprising at least one non-linear resistance and connected across the load circuit (which may comprise a storage battery). The arrangement is particularly adapted to produce a constant output voltage with a droop near maximum current output. The A.C. windings I of the chokes CHA, CHB and CHC are connected in series with the star-connected primary windings of the 3-phase transformer TR, of which the secondary windings supply the D.C. load terminals TL through rectifier MR. Each choke has D.C. controlling windings II and III assisting each other and a biassing winding IV opposing the others. Windings II, adjustable by diverter YB, are in series with the load circuit and with the smoothing chokes CHS and CHSS and condenser Q. Windings IV, adjustable by series resistance YF, are connected across the rectifier output terminals. The windings III are energized by the magnetic amplifying arrangement made up of transformer TRA, auxiliary rectifier AR and chokes CHE and CHF, each with a winding I in the A.C. supply to rectifier AR, a winding in the D.C. output circuit of rectifier AR and a D.C. controlling winding.; the latter are connected to two terminals of bridge VSN having its other two terminals connected to the load terminals TL. The bridge arms include non- linear impedances BRX, BRY and adjustable resistances. Terminals TL may be connected to a secondary battery.
