Abstract

608,399. Tables etc.; shelves. GASCOIGNE CO., Ltd., G. H., GASCOIGNE, G. H., and DEACON, J. P. Feb. 22, 1946, Nos. 5551 and 31348. [Classes 52(i) and 52(iii)] Surfaced structures of platform or shelf form comprise a skeleton framework consisting of paired supporting bars and board elements provided at oppositely disposed sides with downturned edges for positioning purposes and preferably with downturned edges at the other sides for stiffening purposes. As shown a framework consists of pairs of supporting bars 1 clamped by means such as described in Specifications 431,960, 462,769, [both in Group X], 468,346, [Group XXV], and 511,190, to uprights 4 which are interconnected by transverse bars 2. Separate panels 5, 12 are provided with their short edges turned down at 7, 14 to overlap the supporting bars so that the panels bridge the spaces between the supporting bars 1. The adjacent long side edges 6, 15 are also turned down to stiffen the panels 5, 12. The gaps through the down-turned edges for the passage of the supporting bars 1 may be formed in various ways. In one form shown in Fig. 3, the ends of the downturned edges 6 are cut away so to provide a contoured bearing 11 to embrace the bar 1 while the other edges 7 are curved to embrace the outer surface of the bar 1. In other forms a rectangular or a triangular piece is cut out at the meeting place of the adjacent edges.
