[Class 83 (iv)] [Also in- Group XI] In an oxygen jet metalcutting apparatus in which a metal plate f is cut at a bevel by an inclined oxygen jet b, a series of' heating gas jets d arranged in one or more rows and directed on to the metal in advance of the oxygen jet, heat the metal more on the side which will become the obtuse side of the bevel than the acute side. The cutting jet may be directed forwardly in the line of cut as indicated by b<SP>1</SP>. Additional cutting jets may be provided to produce a bevel and nose or double bevel and nose on the finished plate.
