Abstract

607,861. Spray carburetters. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Oct. 5, 1944, No. 19146. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1943. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter having a throttle-controlled induction passage 12 and a fuel conduit 26 having a metering jet or restriction 50 therein leading into the induction passage through a fuel valve 53 controlled by a diaphragm 43 subjected on one side 44 to the pressure of metered fuel and on the other side 46 to a pressure due to a connection to the induction passage, the fuel valve is controlled solely by the difference between the pressure of the metered fuel and the pressure due to the connection to the induction passage supplemented by a spring 62 acting in opposition to the pressure of metered fuel, the connection to the induction passage including a conduit 70, 72 having a calibrated restriction 80 therein leading to the throat of a venturi 74 in the induction passage. Circumferentially arranged holes 22 in the induction passage direct air against the fuel issuing from a nozzle 52 leading from the valve 53. The compression of the spring 62 is adjustable and arranged to just balance the pressure of the fuel in the chamber 44 at the other side of the diaphragm so that when there is a suction in the induction passage the valve 53 is opened and fuel is supplied. For slow running a branch pipe 84 is connected to a slot or holes 92, 94 adjacent the throttle butterfly valve and leads into the pipe 70. A slow running adjusting screw may be provided to control the hole 92. There may be one or more orifices 50 in the fuel supply to the chamber 44 or an adjustable orifice can be provided. There may be more than two holes as 92, 94 for slow running. The adjustable orifice may be controlled automatically according to the power being produced by the engine.
